Tarlungeni Open Space Project was a student-lead initiative in collaboration with a marginalised Roma community to transform an unappropriated area of land for communal use.

Together through a series of participatory workshops we explored how this space might be best made use of by the community. We collaborated with Romanian charity FAST (Foundation for Social Assistance and Youth) already working in the settlement to facilitate and fund a waste collection programme, erosion prevention measures and the construction of children’s play facilities.

This initiative is coordinated by Huan Rimington and Hannah Martin on behalf of UK registered charity Volunteer Studio. Further partners include Architecture for Humanity UK, Khetanipen (Romania), Asociotio Rromilor Tarlungen, The Town Hall of Tarlungeni and Ovidiu Rom (Romania).
