kinshasa clinic

a project by ingvartsen architects

The demand for a new malaria clinic in Kinshasa, the capital of Democratic Republic of Congo, is acute. This project seeks international funding to construct a malaria research clinic building in collaboration with the Kinshasa School of Public Health. The project is designed to be built in two consecutive stages, in line with how funding will be released.

The new building reaches out from the sloping site on two storeys, with ancillary spaces and nurses accommodation below. Louvres screen the east and west facades from direct sunlight during the day. All internal rooms are screened to minimise mosquito intrusion. There is also an outdoor kitchen and dining area with views of the city.
